Chrome nails

Chrome is a powder, not a polish. It is burnished into a cured gel top coat until the surface reflects like metal, which is why a chrome set looks different in a photograph than it does on your hand. Twenty-four of them below.

Design ideas: these are generated references for a style. None of them shows a KuQueen session, and we do not publish a client’s nails without asking her first.

The base underneath decides the metal. The same silver powder over black reads as gunmetal and over a nude reads as bright chrome, which is why two of the sets here look like different products and are the same jar. If you send one of these, the base matters as much as the powder.

Chrome shows everything underneath it. A mirror finish magnifies any ridge or bump in the nail, so the prep takes longer than for a colour and the surface has to be genuinely flat before the powder goes on. That is the honest reason a chrome set is not the quickest thing to book.

It grows out like any gel and it does not chip so much as dull at the edge. The pearl and the lavender hide regrowth for longest because there is least contrast at the cuticle; the gunmetal and the blue show it soonest.
